OSFED
Other Specified Feeding Eating Disorder (OSFED), previously called Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS), is a category of eating disorders that do not meet all of the DSM-5 criteria. For example, people with OSFED may not quite meet the bingeing frequency requirement for binge-eating disorder diagnosis. However, OSFED is still a medical crisis that needs to be addressed by a team of experts, as rapid weight loss/gain are indicators of serious health complications.
NOTE:
Since OSFED encompasses a wide variety of eating disorders, symptoms differ from person to person. Symptoms may include poor body image, self-induced vomiting for fear of weight gain, extreme dieting habits, and overconsumption of food in a short period of time.
Before DSM-V, the EDNOS diagnosis was the most common in community clinics.
